Beijing Forum Open

"Approved by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, and under the auspices of the Beijing Municipal Government, Beijing Forum is an international forum co-sponsored by Peking University, Beijing Municipal Commission of Education and the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies.

The general theme of Beijing Forum is “The Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All”. Beijing Forum aims at promoting the study of humanities and social sciences around the world. It endeavors to promote academic development and social progress across the world in order to contribute to the development and prosperity of humankind. Beijing Forum believes in promoting and safeguarding the progress of the human society through the peaceful integration of civilizations.

Beijing Forum embraces three characteristics. Firstly, it is an international assembly based in Peking University but open to Asia and the world at large, gathering world-class famous scholars. Secondly, it is an academic conference exploring the relationship between the world civilizations and social development. Thirdly, it is an influential forum aimed at public good, attracting close attention from the world academia.

Beijing Forum, which was initiated in 2004, is held annually. This year will see its fifth anniversary. So far it has witnessed the involvement of a total of over 2100 participants including well known politicians and noted scholars from over 40 countries and regions around the world. The first annual conference, Beijing Forum 2004, was held in Beijing on August 23-25, 2004. Around the theme of “The Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All”, 381 internationally renowned scholars from 33 countries and regions took actively part in the conference and carried out profound discussions and explorations. Beijing Forum 2005 was held on November 16-18, 2005. Around the theme of “The Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All — Asia’s Opportunity and Development in Globalization”, 543 internationally renowned scholars from 43 countries and regions conducted indepth exchanges. Focusing on the theme of “The Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All — Reflection on the Civilization Modes of Humankind”, Beijing Forum 2006 was held on October 27-29, 2006. 454 scholars from 35 different countries and regions participated in this grand conference and conducted fruitful discussions. Beijing forum 2007 held on November 2-4, 2007, gathered 441 worldrenowned scholars from 42 countries and regions, holding discussions on the theme of “The Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All—Diversity in the Development of Human Civilization”. Beijing Forum 2008, the fifth annual conference, was held on November 7-9, 2008 in Beijing. Around the theme of “Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All --- The Universal Value and Development Trend of Civilization” Altogether 314 world-renowned scholars from 44 countries or regions conducted fruitful discussions. Beijing Forum 2009 will be held in Beijing on November 6-8."
