1977 First liver transplant

1977-1983 Of a total 57 liver transplants, 80 percent die during or within three months. The longest survival time is 264 days.

October 9, 1984 The Supreme People's Court issues a joint regulation on the use of corpses from executed prisoners.

1993 –2006 Liver transplants boom in China

November 7, 2005 At a World Health Organization meeting in Manila, China's Deputy Minister of Health Huang Jiefu admits most donors are executed prisoners. Some 95 percent are reportedly executed prisoners according to the 2007 China Liver Transplant Handbook edited by Huang.

January 1, 2007 The Supreme People's Court tightens its control of the death penalty.

May 1, 2007 The State Council issues the Regulation on Organ Transplants.

July 3, 2007 The Ministry of Health issues a directive asking all hospitals to stop organ transplants for foreigners.

March 2010 The Red Cross Society and the Ministry of Health launch a pilot program in 11 cities and provinces encouraging voluntary organ donations."
