Tales from China

"After a goodbye lunch organised by Guo Ge, I left for the train to Shanghai. In 2000 this journey took 10 hours overnight, but on the fast-train it now only takes 4. For decades now, or possibly even a century or more, China has been dominated by the question of development, and now the government, academia and media propagate this word constantly. GDP is indeed the sole criterion of truth! Things are certainly developing, but who the winners and losers of this development are is a different question entirely…"
